MILLINERS

THEME THURSDAY - HATS.
I have loved being a third generation milliner - and love all the history that goes along with that....this should be a wonderful opportunity for me to invite you into my world. As fate would have it - I am just too sick to be creative or interesting so I will simply invite you to read the last two posts which were both tributes to the amazing generations before me.

The above photo is the cover of a Chicago Tribune Magazine - it featured a story on American artist Aaron Bohrod. Mrs. Bohrod was a great client of mom's and grandma's and their visits to the store inspired him ......... he gathered all these pieces...ribbons, flowers, straw - even the wooden block - from the hat shop to create this still life for his painting "The Bonnet".

And just for fun...does anyone know where the term "milliner" was born?

anyone........no?

The first people to plait straw to make brims and bodies for head wear were the hat makers in Milan, Italy - so they were the "MILAN ers". The English speaking world mangled that into "milliners"

ciao

How wonderful to be so creative and have such a long history to enjoy in a family business.

My folks were self employed as well but it did not require much talent and was certainly nothing the girls would have wanted for a career.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
